Many web developers choose to specialise in just that, web development. They complete a project, sign it off and move onto the next client.
Not only does this limit your value, it also limits your client base because not all companies want a website designed from scratch. Many companies just need to update existing sites, or they need someone to fix a problem that suddenly occurs.
